What is Flight Data Monitoring?
Flight Data Monitoring as a core safety and performance process
Flight Data Monitoring (FDM), also known as Flight Data Analysis or FOQA, is the process of collecting and analysing QAR/FDR data to identify operational risks, support the Safety Management System, and drive continuous improvement.
Modern Flight Data Monitoring programs go beyond regulatory compliance: they connect flight data with operational decisions, training and fuel efficiency – and increasingly with pilot-facing insights.

How it works?
How Flight Data Monitoring works with Fliant
We run your Flight Data Monitoring program on top of FlightVue FDM. Flight data is securely ingested from QAR/FDR sources, automatically decoded and analysed, and then reviewed by Fliant analysts who prepare audience-specific outputs for Safety, Flight Ops, management and, optionally, pilots.
- Flight data is securely ingested into FlightVue FDM from QAR/FDR and other relevant operational systems.
- The platform automatically decodes, validates and analyses each flight using your configured event sets and SOP-based logic.
- Fliant analysts review key events, trends and findings, adding narrative context and concrete recommendations.
- Safety, Flight Ops and management receive dashboards and reports on an agreed cadence – and pilots can optionally receive debriefs via FlightAdvise.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions? We’re here to help you.
No. Some operators use our service as their primary FDM capability, while others use it to complement a small internal team, extend coverage or modernise legacy tooling.
We primarily work with QAR/FDR data from your fleet and can also integrate schedule, OFP and other operational data sources to provide richer context for analysis. For smaller Business Jet and General Aviation operators we can also ingest data from popular avionics suites like Garmin, AFS, Avidyne, etc.
Onboarding usually takes weeks, not months. Timelines depend on data availability, access to existing recorder layouts and alignment on your event sets and reporting needs.
Yes. The operator remains the owner of all flight and operational data. Fliant acts as a processor, operating the platform and delivering analysis on your behalf.
